Victorian vibe

Hannah Phipps

Hannah’s inspiration for her outfit came from Victorian walking suits. She sourced the items she used to create her outfit from a local swap event as well as items and scrap fabric from her own home. The ribbon and lace was salvaged from Christmas wrapping. Hannah used a trouser suit she sourced at the swap event for her outfit.

  • Hannah upcycled the blazer by appliqueing pieces of scrap fabric to one of the pocket flaps, and to one side of the collar.

She also stitched a lace trim to the underside of the lapel and to the cuffs of the blazer.

Hannah created a beautiful embroidered design feature on the lapels of the blazer with rose wheels, a stem stitch and leaf details.

She also used this embroidered design feature on the ribbon choker and the victorian style belt.

The belt and the leg warmers with the lace trim were made from fabric harvested from the trousers of the trouser suit.

Hannah attached the same green ribbon to the back of the belt which ties with a bow. Hannah customised a green top by adding a lace trim to the turtle neck.

She made the circle skirt with an elasticated waist from a brown fabric leftover from a previous project.

The crocheted bag was made from leftover yarn and is lined with the same scrap fabric used to embellish the blazer, with ribbon bows attached at the straps.

  • Hannah researched the environmental impacts of acrylic highlighting the fact that it cannot be recycled and will last up to 200 years in landfill with the harmful chemicals used in the production process leaching into the surrounding environment and water systems.
