This group chose to source all of their materials from what they already had and decided not to buy anything extra for their outfit.. They collected old clothes, jewellery and fabrics from friends and family members - multiple preloved ties, and leftover/damaged fabric from previous projects.
-
They drew inspiration from historically set TV shows and films such as Dickinson, Bridgerton, The Tudors and Enola Holmes, and created a moodboard to explore their design, searching online for ideas and patterns to use.
-
The process began by hand sewing the ties together for the centre front panel of the bodice of the dress.
They built on this piece by using a sewing machine to add panels of patterned fabric on each side, that continue to the back where there is a corset feature with eyelets laced with ribbon.
They created their own pattern for the skirt and sleeves, and experimented through trial and error, making adjustments until they reached the desired shape.
The skirt is hemmed and the sleeves take advantage of the selvedge edge of the fabric.
The dress is embellished with preloved jewellery around the waist.
