The group decided that the padding inside the ties was too bulky for their design so they opened each tie, removed it and hand sewed the ties back together using a running stitch. They sewed the ties together at the front a zigzag stitch on the machine, leaving the length of the ties to use as a halterneck, tying at the back of the neck.
The group used fabric harvested from the leg of a pair of jeans for the back of the top and inserted a zip at one side.

To create the skirt, the group deconstructed a pair of jeans, taking in the waist to alter it to the correct size.
The bottom of two ties were used as godets in the front and back of the skirt, creating a subtle but quirky design feature.

The group also made a bag from the back of a pair of jeans, keeping the pocket in place as a functional design feature. The bag is beautifully lined and has a zip inserted at the top to close it. The strap is made from the length of one of the ties used for the insert of the skirt.

The group researched the impacts of the toxic dyes used in the production of polyester and the harm it causes to waterways and ecosystems.
This group’s outfit was inspired by upcycling techniques they wanted to try out and a desire to be as sustainable as possible. The group sourced the items to use in their outfit from charity shops as well as unwanted ties from their grandparents.
