This group wanted their outfit to highlight diversity, by combining elements from different cultures.
They gathered two saris - 12 and 20 years old (given by a group member's grandmother and aunt), a shirt, a satin blouse, a pair of shoes, and old table mat.
-
This group used one of the saris to create a base dress, adding a zip at the back and gold chains for straps.
The front of the dress is embellished with a large Russian inspired embroidery motif, backed with extra fabric for strength.
The second sari was used to create a dramatic over skirt with pleats added using a sewing machine.
The belt was made using harvested fabric and beads from a traditional Filipino shirt and the beads were hand sewn into the pattern you see using gold thread.
The outfit is styled with preloved shoes decorated with leftover fabric and trim, a rose hair tie, made from fabric harvested from a satin blouse and old hair bobbin, and African inspired jewellery.
-
This group looked into clothing production and how many factory workers are treated unfairly, paid very little, and forced to work in unsafe conditions.
