The Scrap Collection

Inspired by a combination of upcycling techniques he wanted to try out and a love of bright colours, Arlo created this eye-catching outfit from unwanted items and scrap fabric sourced from her own home and a local charity shop.

Charity Retail Ireland partner: St. Vincent De Pauls Clifden

  • Arlo created his own pattern and harvested the wool for the top of his outfit from two different jumpers, one with a variegated colour-way which he used for the main body and gives a beautiful impression of clouds and one with the strong turquoise block colour which he used for the ribbing on the collar and the sleeves.

  • The patches for the skirt were cut from unwanted tshirts, jeans, shirts, dresses, pillowcases, a table cloth and scrap fabrics. Arlo sewed them together into strips using the sewing machine and gathered each layer to give the skirt a fuller shape. He then appliques stars cut from the smaller leftover scraps onto the skirt by hand using different coloured embroidery thread to make it look more fun!
