  • The two tone top was created by adding the bottom part of a white top to a black vest to give a layered effect. The group created the wide leg jeans by opening the side of the cargo pants and inserting the legs of a black pair of jeans as long godets with strips of lace harvested from an old tablecloth added along the seams.

To create the stars, the group cut different sized star shapes from a pair of gray jeans and from a pair of white jorts. They experimented with natural dying techniques using rhubarb to dye the white stars, however they were unhappy with the results and decided to paint them purple with fabric paint instead. Using the painted stars as the base they handstitched the stars to the jeans, layering the stars cut from the grey jeans by using the lighter inside for the next layer and the darker outside for the top layer and completing them with a hand stitched star motif.

The group cut a strip from a white top to create the waistband of the overskirt and added two layers of fabric harvested from the lace table cloth. They hand painted beads from an old necklace and attached them to the lace layers with thread adding a subtle moving design feature. To restyle the hoodie, the group added a band of velvet to the hood and stuffed it with the scrap fabric created from the rest of their outfit.

  • The group used leftover sheets of plastic and a laser cutter to create the star shapes for their handmade earrings and necklace.

The outfit is completed with lace laced converse.

  • Their research focused on the impacts of cotton production highlighting the draining of the Aral Sea caused by irrigation for cotton crops.

This group were inspired by urban streetwear styles, Y2K looks and Ashley Tisdale’s style in the 2010s. They sourced the items for their outfit from one of their grannies, one of their mums and a local charity shop.
