This group sourced the items they used to create their outfit from their local charity shop and donations from their school. They wanted to design a contemporary look in line with current trends and used the items they gathered as a starting point for their design inspiration. While there was a lot of denim in the items, they also wanted to incorporate a colourful element and settled on the patchwork techniques as the best way to do this.

After cutting many square patches for their outfit, they sewed them together making a patchwork fabric to cut the pattern pieces for their jacket from.
The jacket is expertly constructed with a lining and zip harvested from one of the donated pieces. Careful consideration was put into the patchworking to created a balanced patchwork aesthetic. This can be seen particularly in the coulourful patches at the cuffs of both sleeves. This pop of colour is echoed in the patchwork frill attached to the bottom of the skirt.
The crocheted bag is made from wool harvested from donated jumpers. The straps are attached using repurposed keyrings and there is an accompanying crocheted rose which can be worn around the neck or as a hair decoration.

The group researched polyester production highlighting the use of harmful chemicals and heavy metals during the dyeing and finishing process which enter waterways, polluting water systems.
