The items for this outfit were sourced from a local charity shop, donations from friends and family as well as unwanted items from Sadhbh’s home.
Sadhbh decided to go for a unique casual look and set off on an organic design process, allowing the items she gathered to inspire her design.
-
Sadbh deconstructed one of the donated shirts and used each piece to create a pattern for her shirt.
She reconstructed the shirt using fabric harvested from an unwanted duvet cover. The shirt is beautifully constructed with gathers at the top and bottom of the sleeves, the button placate is topstitched and Sadhbh created buttonholes using the sewing machine.
The corset was created from the legs of a pair of black denim jeans with eyelets and lacing at the back to close.
-
Sadhbh used the waistband of the black jeans as the waistband of the skirt, using a gathering stitch to fit the skirt to the waistband. She kept the original button on the waistband and inserted a zip. The body of the skirt was cleverly constructed using the bedsheet with a pair of deconstructed blue jeans as a panel in the skirt. Pockets and other parts of the jeans were appliques as patches to the skirt before hemming the bottom.
-
Sadhbh looked into the impacts of cotton production and recommended the RTE documentary ‘Forced Fashion’ for anyone who wants to learn more.
