This group looked in their local charity shops for textiles they could use for their outfit but decided to use materials gathered from home instead, such as an old shirt, fabric sample book, and a roll of blue fabric.

They were inspired by the ‘cutesy and childish’ Lolita fashion style and wanted their look to be centred around childhood and imagination. They also wanted to embrace a cluttered and maximalist style in their outfit.

  • This group searched in their local charity shops for a corset, but couldn’t find one so they decided to make their own from the materials they had.

They used a paper pattern to create the corset and skirt and constructed them using a sewing machine.

The corset is finished with a white trim, encasing all the raw edges around the top and bottom. They added an elastic waistband to the skirt and decorated it with patches from a fabric sample book, appliquéd by hand with blanket stitch.

The caplet was made from wool harvested from an unwanted jumper and is decorated with hanging buttons around the edge.

The outfit features accessories - a headpiece made from navy lace, ribbon, fabric scraps and hair clips, and arm warmers made from navy lace. The outfit is styled with a preloved shirt and underskirt.

  • This group researched viscose production and found out that it takes 30 tonnes of water to produce every tonne of viscose fabric.
