Office Hours After Dark

This group collected unwanted ties, jeans and belts from her own wardrobe and family members.

Their design was inspired by the materials they had, and wanting to transform something traditional and formal into something new and creative.

The entire outfit was hand sewn and shows how unwanted items can be given a new life through creativity and design.

  • The top is constructed from ties arranged and sewn together vertically, with a halter strap, and a horizontal belt feature, also tying at the back.

The jeans were altered into a skirt with more ties added at the bottom to give length, and applique patches on the front pockets.

The back of the skirt features all the labels from the ties used sewn onto one tie which is also used as a belt. Any left over materials were used to create the bag.

  • Through this process, the group learned about how much water is used in cotton farming and the destruction caused to the Aral Sea as a result.
