Lorraine Keane Inspires Next Generation of Young Designers as Relove Fashion Competition Returns Nationwide
Lorraine Keane has officially launched Ireland’s sustainable fashion competition for young people, which is in its second year running nationwide. Ireland’s teenagers are invited to turn preloved textiles into sustainable, wearable outfits while showing off their creativity and style.
Old shirts, ripped jeans, torn bedsheets, moth-eaten berets and curtains have gotten a sustainable fashion makeover in the Relove Fashion Competition!
Participants are invited to explore repair, sewing, and upcycling, transforming preloved textiles from their own homes, charity shops, donations from friends and family, or swap events into innovative sustainable designs. Along the way, they help tackle Ireland’s addiction to fast fashion and the textile waste it creates, explore the circular economy, and prove that sustainable fashion can be fun, creative, and impactful.
The competition is open to young people aged 12-19 in schools, youth groups and individuals. All participants gain access to lesson plans, activities, and resources to bring creativity, sustainability, and practical textile skills to life.
“Relove Fashion is such an exciting way for young people to get creative with sustainable style. After being a part of this competition for several years now, I’ll never look at a bedsheet the same way again! I can’t wait to see what amazing designs are created this year.”
“Young people continue to amaze us with their talent and imagination. It’s inspiring to see them lead the way in sustainable fashion, building practical skills to move Ireland towards real circular living. The Waste Regions are delighted to support Relove Fashion in its 7th year, and second time going nationwide.”
“Relove Fashion is a textile and skills-based competition that empowers and encourages participants to rethink their clothes and the fashion industry in a fun and creative way. We are so proud of the development of the competition so far, and can’t wait to see what’s next.”
Young people, teachers, and youth group leaders are invited to register their interest now. Those who register their interest before 30th September have the chance of winning a sewing machine. The competition is open to young people aged 12-19 across participating Local Authorities and is supported by the Government of Ireland, Regional Waste Management Planning Offices, and local authorities and proudly delivered by the Rediscovery Centre.
