Judge Announcement: Orla Langan
Our next judge announcement is another new joiner to Relove Fashion. We’re thrilled to welcome the talented designer and lecturer at NCAD, Orla Langan, to the judging panel!
Orla is a graduate of BDes (Hons) Fashion Design at The National College of Art and Design, she also has a Masters in Multi-Media Systems from Trinity College Dublin and holds a Certificate Design for Sustainability and Circular Economies from TUS, Limerick.
Orla has a wealth of creative interpretation with her experience in international sportswear apparel, having designed for brands such as Fila, Sweaty Betty in London and Puma, Lee Jeans. She worked as a trend analyst with the world’s leading trend forecaster WGSN in London. She has consulted on design for many medical device start ups. Orla continues to work on numerous collaborative projects with artists, designers, stylists and agencies. Orla launched her own label in 2017 with the vision to create a conscientious, distinctive label; merging art, design and street style.
Orla merges and explores sustainable design, creative pattern cutting, non binary fashion and contemporary streetwear. The result is a modernist mix of fabrication, pattern, colour and detail that echo the form and process of Orla's zero waste philosophy. The playful and sculptural tailoring in contrast materials and print are a statement on the power of design to both elevate function and celebrate style. Orla is constantly researching new textiles without compromising the inherent properties that she builds into the garments.
Orla Langan’s work continues to explore her own process and practice of deconstructing traditions of tailoring and construction in clothing, pulling inspiration from historical costume all the way through to Japanese workwear, sportswear, art, music and emerging technologies.
Orla Langan’s philosophy is that style should not be at the expense of our planet and supports the Cradle to Cradle process by creating products with the vision to create a world where waste is effectively eliminated. Cradle to Cradle design reimagines the traditional ” take-make-waste ” model and replaces it with a circular, regenerative system. It promotes the idea that products and materials can be designed to create continuous cycles of use and reuse, reducing the strain on our planet’s resources and fostering a more sustainable and transparent future for design.
She has an ongoing interest in Biomaterials, 3D design, Adaptive Fashion, Farm to Fabric and Digital Fashion solutions for a more circular approach to design and continues to research how she can incorporate these into her own practice.
