This group wanted to create a stylish and comfortable outfit using denim jeans that were too small and stained.

They used Pinterest to find inspiration for what kind of look they wanted to create and drew sketches of their design.

  • They deconstructed the jeans, using the top half for the base of the skirt and then harvested the left over denim to use to create the top and the ruffles around the bottom of the skirt.

The ruffles were made by creating a long panel of denim, using a gathering stitch technique, and a sewing machine to attach it to the skirt.

The group copied the pattern from a top they already had, and made adjustments so it fits correctly.

The outfit is embellished with carefully placed machine-applique flowers, taken from a preloved pillowcase and are also hand embroidered and beaded.

The raw edges of the top and ruffles have also been hemmed using a sewing machine.
