This group sourced materials from their local charity shop and from home. They gathered white jeans, blue jeans, a white corset style top, floral fabric, white denim jacket and ‘toddler skirts’.

They searched online for inspiration and wanted to include denim in their design as “so much of it goes to waste”. They created a moodboard and also wanted to include bees and flowers in their design.

This group carefully considered how they would use their materials to create as little waste as possible and used every part of the jeans they cut up. While undertaking this project, the group learned how to use a sewing machine and also how to patch a hole.

  • They started by taking measurements to make sure their outfit would fit.

Next, they cut small flowers from a jumper and hand sewed them to the straps of the white corset top.

They used floral fabric to cover the cups and add a strip at the bottom of the top to lengthen it. They also covered stains on the top with strips of harvested denim.

They created the jacket by removing the sleeves from the white denim jacket, replacing them with the legs of blue jeans.

The back of the jacket features colourful hand embroidery and more small flower details. The flower details appear throughout the outfit and the group used every piece of the flower details they cut from the jumper, and also every piece of denim was harvested and used.

The skirt is made from different pieces of denim clothes sewn together and is embellished with bee details, more hand embroidery and flower details on the pockets.
