Our young designers Megan and Eimear were inspired by the dark and edgy aesthetic in the animated show Monster High, and wanted to create a sustainable outfit that reflected this style.

The team visited a local charity shop and managed to save a number of ties and other fabrics before they could be sent away for textile recycling.

The corset top has been hand sewn together and includes a heart cut-out which has been backed with lace and embroidered around the edges. The corset closes at the back with eyelets and a shoelace.

The skirt is made up of three layers. The base layer of the skirt was made by deconstructing a dress and dyeing the fabric to match the colour scheme. The middle layer has also been dyed - originally a piece of white lace fabric being disposed of by a curtain shop. The top layer of the skirt has been created from an old Halloween tablecloth. The skirt also has a waistband made from ties and includes a zip at the back for taking on and off with ease.
