Our young designer Isabel wanted to make something she would actually wear, and loved the idea of using trousers to make a top.

She began by sourcing some preloved jeans in a charity shop, and deconstructed them - removing the seams to give herself flat pieces of denim to work with.

She then used one of her own tshirts as a template, and cut the denim into panels for the corset. After sewing the panels together, she hemmed the corset and added hooks and eyes to close at the back.

For the skirt, Isabel started with two pairs of trousers - one from a charity shop, and one of her mam’s old work trousers. Isabel took in the waistband of the skirt to fit herself and added lining, made from the lining of one of the trousers.
