All of the items used by Victoria to create her outfit were sourced from her sister’s, her own and her mum's wardrobes. As the title suggests, Victoria’s outfit was inspired by her mother, Victoria incorporated some unused traditional Nigerian fabric as a design feature in her outfit, connecting with her family history and cultural identity.
-
To create the shirt Victoria deconstructed and reconstructed the pink shirt replacing the two front panels with the traditional fabric and reattaching the pink button placate and the buttons.
-
The skirt is made from denim harvested from a pair of jeans, Victoria pleated the denim before adding the traditional fabric as a waistband, as a pocket detail on the back and as a trim on the bottom of the skirt. Victoria inserted a zip at the back of the skirt.
-
The fleece gilet is made from an unwanted fleece jacket, which Victoria repurposed by taking off the arms and the collar and adding the traditional fabric as a trim. The outfit is finished off with a headband made from the traditional Nigerian fabric.
