This group wanted to set a challenge for themselves - to use up unwanted clothes from home - saving them from landfill, and also igniting a conversation about the current political climate of the world. They were heavily influenced by punk fashion and culture and have included different elements that reference this.

  • They gathered a navy hoodie with star detail/design, a denim skirt, jeans, black corset, skirt, tie, belt and ribbons and studs from home.

  • The jacket was made by deconstructing the denim skirt and adding the legs from the jeans as sleeves - the group used draping and pinning to reimagine how this would work on their model.

The star design from the hoodie was harvested and appliqued by hand onto the preloved corset. The tie was embellished with fabric patches, a zip, studs, a buckle and ribbon - all attached by hand.

The outfit is styled with a preloved black skirt and black boots and a belt has been sewn/attached to the side of the corset - adding to the punk aesthetic.

The back of the jacket also includes a hand embroidered message that encapsulates the group's inspiration and objective of their outfit!
