It was inspired by aquatic life and the damage done to it by fast fashion pollution. Our young designer Edena sourced a pair of jeans from her local charity shop, and used other fabrics from her stash of materials at home.
Firstly, Edena took apart the jeans and made her own pattern with parchment paper. She added darts for shape to the bodice, and created a patchwork from the rest of the fabric to make the back piece.
The beautiful feature around the bottom of the dress was made using two layers, an old underskirt Edena made previously, and a mesh fabric found in her collection of fabrics at home. The 'puffiness' was created by hand sewing gathers in these layers. The beautiful embroidery, as if growing from the dress, represents the plant life in the ocean, and has been created with embroidery threads found in the Home Ec. department at Edena's school. The embroidery has also been embellished with beads from Edena's sister's button and bead collection.
