The Asme dress was cleverly repurposed from a jacket, a pair of leggings, a tshirt and some scrap fabric, all sourced from the team members homes and from the local charity shop. The outfit was inspired by the classic look of Chanel combined with the more modern edgy style of Keren Brown.

  • The jacket was cut in two to create a cropped blazer and the body of the dress.

The asymmetrical design was created by cropping one of the sleeves of the blazer and adding the leg of a pair of leggings as the other sleeve.

The customising of the collar by adding leopard print fabric on one side and white fabric on the other continues the asymmetrical theme as well as bringing some lovely texture into the design.

The diagonal line of the piece of the leggings sewn on to the bottom of the dress echoes the asymmetry of the sleeve. The back of the jacket is embellished  with a custom made flower motif, hand sewn and hand painted and appliqued on to the back of the jacket, bringing an interesting pop of colour into the mix.

  • The dress was created from the bottom part of the original jacket and has an innovative design feature in the way a strip of the Tshirt was sewn to the top allowing it to be worn on or off the shoulder.

  • The team did some great research into the impacts of polyester, focusing on the amount of microplastics released through washing and suggesting alternatives, such as reducing the amount of washes, using cooler wash settings and air drying.
