This group gathered items for their outfit from friends and family, they were inspired to tell a story through their outfit, and wanted people to be able to see the reuse and upcycling process used to create it. They also wanted to represent polar bears and the melting icecaps in their creation.

  • The group used a pair of white satin trousers to create the bodice of the dress.

They cut off the legs and turned it back to front using the button and zip as a closing at the back.

They used the legs to create off the shoulder straps which they attached to the waistband of the jeans, crossing them over at the back.

A flower trim was added to the front of the bodice.

The colourful skirt of the dress was created by sewing unwanted items of clothing to the bottom of the bodice, creating a dress full of stories.

To complete the outfit the group turned a preloved skirt into a shawl embellished with colourful hand-embroidered flowers and a handmade fabric rose.

The shawl doubles as an overskirt for an all white look.

  • The group researched the impacts of polyester production highlighting the fact that it is made from crude oil, a non-renewable fossil fuel.
